When I was a kid, I really enjoyed movies about "Dracula". Dracula, the "Vampire" was, if you recall, mostly dead. He had the ability to move around, usually at night, terrifying people, draining their blood, then making others "undead", just like himself. Before you knew it, poof, a whole bunch of "undeads".
As an adult, I seem to run into a lot of "undead" people in the business/customer service world. They answer the phone "alive", but often they seem, mostly dead. I would say, detatched, uninterested, uninformed. They seem to quickly pass you into voicemail, put you on hold, or tell you, that "so and so will call back later". No energy, or enthusiasm, just sort of "there".
Vampires were fun, scary, unique. Answering the phone as an "alive" person with nothing interesting to say, with no information or help to offer seems silly, sort of "undead". Doesn't this defeat the point of answering the phone "alive"?
